| | i believe (whenifallinloveitwillbeforever) by stevie wonder | ] | so i have been thinking lately about things that are sappy/cheesy. now, i do admit i am a total sap, and i am ok with it, but i find it interesting that you can take something, a song for example, that is totally cheesy, but in a certain context at a certain moment it can really mean something to someone. so, it is kind of like, in their mind it is no longer cheesy, but actually is a real sincere feeling. i am not saying this to ratinalize being sappy, or that it doesn't exsist, just that, the right thing said at the right time, be it cheesy or not, can have a huge impact on your life. so let's hear it for all us saps, cause it's a fun way to feel. :-) p.s. the move high fidelity has changed my life. |

| | boston by augustana | ] | on april fool's day i went to brooklyn to watch a marching band battle of the bands. yes, you read correctly. they were not really marching bands like, high school football games, all these people were like my age or more, the ones i rooted for were called rude mechanical orchestra (never did find out the origin of the name) but i guess they do these gigs of sorts every so often, and they are semi-political, and it is basically just a bunh of people who can more or less play instruments and want to inform people and have fun. i dunno, anyway, it was four bands, each had their own color and were dressed all crazy marching and dancing around this park meeting up with another band and basically challengin them, bring it on style. it was SO funny. great entertainment. right now i am in the process (still) of getting my life in order. do i stay in the city? will i ever get a dance job? how much longer can i stand urban outfitters? can i find a washer that actually rinses and then drains the water out of it? these are questions i am trying to get to the bottom of. perhaps in time. it always come down to time, doesn't it yeah, rock out, whatever... |

| | how it ends by devotchka | ] | here are some things you may or may not know about me. some of these things may seem a little crazy, but hey, it's me. when i read a book when i start another chapter i always have to see how many pages there are in the chapter before i read the chapter. not that that has any affect on whether or no i read the chapter for i often stop in the middle of a chapter. also, when i buy a new movie (DVD) i have to watch the trailer of that movie before i watch it. i collect pennies. and now have so many that the transportation of them could get tricky, and heavy. a fantasy of mine is to enter a dance/pary/bar/whatever and have the song crimson and clover (by joan jett and the blackhearts) come on as a man walks over to me and leads me to the dance floor and then we commence dancing. odd, i know. i kind of have this thing for ed harris. like, really. i do not think i could watch the movie wonderboys too many times. i want to name my daughter (assuming i have one) dylan. i want you to want me by cheap trick is my favorite love song. muppet treasure island never ceases to crack me up. andrew you know what i'm talking about! my first shot ever was of tequila, now i can't stand the stuff. i count things, pretty much obsessively. devotchka rocks my world. the lead singers voice is so sincere it pierces my heart. 2 is my favorite number, 11:11 is my favorite time, coblat blue is my favoire color, and serendipity is my favorite word. i want very badly for the harry potter world of witches and wizards to exsist and for me to be one. watching peyton manning is like watching a well choreographed dance, it's hot. i have a severe weakness for music. i miss the "vortex" more than i thought possible. (you either know what that means or you don't) i sometimes feel like i am amelie from the movie amelie. i tend to think too much. i avoid cracks in the sidewalk. showing any signs of weakness really bothers me. i would do jim carrey, johhny depp or johnny knoxville in sec. ( i think i have a thing for j's, now that i think about it my first crush was on a guy named jay...) my personal best score on text twist is 40,540. i get addicted to things really easily. i don't believe in love at first sight, but i do believe in true love. i believe love is the most important thing in life, but i also think it is the trickiest and hardest to figure out. there are crazy people everywhere, it just seems like new york has more of them because here they are more open and vocal about their craziness. at times, i can really ramble. i love that i am random. i think it is time to end this. |

| | can't buy me love by the beatles | ] | so i have this borders gift certificate i had gotten for christmas, and the other day i decide to walk on over after work and see if there is anything i want. i was kind of feeling like i wanted to get some tv show on dvd, and i figure with a gift certificate now would be the time. anyway, i am looking, looking, not really seeing anything. then i remember i have been wanting The Office (the original bbc one that is) so i look to see if they have it. they have one of the seasons one and two plus the special left and i notice the sticker says 24.99, and i am like, damn! it is usually like $60 every other time i have looked at it, this is great! so i pick it up and notice behind it is just the special on dvd selling for the same price, 24.99. now, it hardly seams like you could either get the special or the special plus seasons one and two for the same price. so i look at the sticker and notice it just says the special. clearly they have miss labeled it. hmmmm i think, do you think i could still get it for this super cheap price? i can try, right. then i notice on the back there is a small sticker that says this is suppose to be rung up under this code, making it its actually price. but, usually when a cashier is ringing you up they would just scan the sticker they see with the nice big bar code not noticing the other, right? surly i can get away with this. hell, might as well try. so i go up and sure enough he just scans the sticker on the front, which also happened to be marked down to $19.99, i give him my gift card (25 dollars on it) and bing bam boom it's paid for. yay me! the funny part is that i had said i am not sure if i have enough on my gift card, and he had thought i said i want it gift wrapped, so he was actually getting it ready for wrapping, and actually pulled off the price sticker, AND the sticker on the back with instructions. now either he just wasn't paying attention, or didn't car enough to say hey this is actually 60 or whatever. either way i now have the office seasons one and two and the full length special, a 4 dvd set purchased with a gift card for 20 dollars. it was a good day. now you may say that was wrong of me, and now working in the retail world i should have fessed up to help them out. but i say, no, you made a mistake, your fault, pay the consequences. at work i always go out of my way to make sure i am marking things correctly, and am usually fixing other peoples mistakes. so if i can do my job, they should be able to do theirs. the office rocks (and so does scrubs, i am so glad it is back) the end. |

| happy new year! |
[Jan. 3rd, 2006|08:23 pm] |
yay for 2006, who's with me? not only is there a 2 in the number, but there is a 6, and i love writting the number 6. i had a good new years eve, quiet, but nice. stayed in with drew, ordered pizza, had some bicardi 0 with V8 splash: tropical blend. yeah, it's a great mix. and watched movies. i actually missed the ball drop, which is kind of weird, seeing as i was not that far from it this year. oh well. here's to a wonderful year, may it bring everything you hope for. wow, that was sappy, sorry, i just saw drew off. but, scrubs is on soon, FINALLY it is back. so that makes me happy. and i just finally saw Scarface. now, it is no cinematic marvel, but i will admit it is a classic, and i liked it, and i like al pacino, and imitating his accent in the film. say hello to my little friend. classic i tell ya. ok, time to go. |

| | say it ain't so by weezer | ] | 10 Things i learned while walking home from work (i.e. 72nd st to 164th st)...
10) i am becoming a very fast walker, and i find it weird to slow down to a normal pace.
9) everyone in new york city, except me, has a black winter jacker. everyone.
8) there is a starbuck's on every other corner, til you hit about 116th street and then there is a liquor store and/or fast food restaurant on every other corner. (particularly mcdonald's and anything involving fried chicken)
7) the city between about 120th and 150th has a lot more hills then you may think.
6) the key to any long walk is having a good mix cd on hand, especially ones that play "my hero" by the foo fighters between 133rd and 135th where there is a particularly long and steep hill.
5) new york city could be the loudest place on the planet.
4) transit strikes are the worst things EVER.
3) by 150th street i give up my fast pace. around 152nd street is when my legs give out.
2) the full affects are not fully felt til an hour after you have stopped walking.
1) i am one stubborn girl...maybe too stubborn i can't get home for christmas soon enough. happy holidays to all of you, may it be fun and filled with cheap transportation. |

| | dreaming of you by the coral | ] | so here is an update of the "celebrities" i have run in to. so last friday, known as black friday (busiest shopping day of the year) i am greeting at urban outfitters and this guy comes in and is like do you sell men's winter hats i am like yes, and tell him where out mens stuff is located, anyway, a group of his friends are waiting by the front of the store for him while he goes and looks. and who happened to be one of the friends, none other than tiffany-amber thiessen (don't know how to spell it, but yes, kelly from saved by the bell) i wasn't sure it was her at first, but when another coworker came by me and was like, kelly was just here! and this customer also came up to me and was like, do you believe that was kelly? i knew it must have been here. she looked pretty good, but i couldn't help thinking that she has the misfortune of being forever known as kelly... oh well, it was still kind of fun. but, to the more important sighting, well, to me anyway. so on a day at urban when they decided ashley was going to work in all the different departments in one day, i was up on the men's floor maintaing with a men's associate (co-worker) when frances mcdormand comes up asking for if we have a specific size of this one pant. the funny thing was that at first it seemed natural that she was there, like she was someone i see everyday. later i figured out that was probably because i watch the movie Wonder Boys OBSESSIVELY. anyway, we looked for her, but unfortunately they didn't turn out to be the pants her, i guess, son had wanted. but she was so nice and laid-back, and was like, i am so sorry i bothered you, i should have noticed they weren't the ones with buttons that he likes. it was really cool. but the sad thing was that i went around telling people at work she was here, and they were all like, who is she? and i was like WHAT???? i love her! she is amazing. hello, the lady in fargo, great stuff people. oh well. anyway, that is the latest. apparently urban outfitters is the cool place to shop... heh. |

| | what do i get by the buzzcocks | ] | in case you were wondering if a person could actually bruise the palm of their hand, worry no longer for it's possible. in case you were wondering, scrubs season 2 kicks ass, and yes, i have already watched all 22 episodes. (and yes i was really excited when i found out there were 22) in case you were wondering if i have gone to see harry potter yet, i am going wednesday. in case you were wondering if i have seen pride and prejudice yet, i saw it the day ti came out (11/11), and i loved it. if ever a movie was an ashley movie this would be it. (and yes i am aware that probably most of my friends (males) will not like it, i am merely stating my opinion) in case you were wondering i am still obsessed with the colts, but hate new york for only showing east coast teams games. enough with the jets already! in case you were wondering if i was tired of all this "in case you were wondering" crap, i am. the end. |

| | you already know by devotcka | ] | so, i am not sure who reads this anymore but i am going to take a moment here to put down some songs that well have impacted my life in some way or the other. granted music is like WAY huge in my life, i mean, remember when i was at school and i had to have my walkman for my like 2 minute walk from Moore to Meadows... yeah, that hasn't changed. anyway, if you don't know these songs, i HIGHLY recommend them. (they are in no particular order) let down by radiohead exit music (to a film) by radiohead fake plastic trees by radiohead mr. blue sky by e.l.o. fool of me by Me'Shell NdegeOcello such great heights by postal service learning to fly by tom petty last nite by the strokes say it ain't so by weezer since i fell for you by nina simone gabriel by Lamb i want you to want me by cheap trick swan dive by ani untouchable face by ani tiny dancer by elton john bookends theme by simon and garfunkel not dark yet by bob dylan times have changed by bob dylan overkill by colin hay hold on hope by guided by voices wish you were here by pink flyod these are the thoughts by alanis these boots are made for walking by nancy sinatra kissing the lipless by the shins come pick me up by ryan adams where is my mind by the pixies across the universe by the beatles i can't make you love me by bonnie raitt round here by the counting crows hanging around by the counting crows cedar room by doves let go by frou frou wonderwall by oasis i shall believe by sheryl crow piece of my heart by janis joplin this years love by david gray percious things by tori amos who need sleep by the barenaked ladies parallel or together by ted leo and the pharmacists babe i'm gonna leave you by led zeppelin lullaby by billy joel angel standing by by jewel lover's spit by broken social scene you already know by devotchka- (they are my current favorite band, they are freaking amazing)
so there are probably many more, but i could tell i was already starting to get carried away, but i think i wrote them down more for myself anyway. and any music i have choreographed to that is not on the list counts too. :-) hahaha. damn i love music. or what i really love is how a song can immediately reconnect you to a moment in your life and the feelings and joys and pains that you were feeling. memories are important, because it was those moments that made us who we are today, for better or worse. play on. |
